"Like I Like You" ~ Animatic

I thought I'd try my hand at working on a personal animatic. The song, "Like I Like You," sung by Julie Bennet, is from the 1964 animated film "Hey There, It's Yogi Bear," of which all rights are reserved to Hanna-Barbera Productions and Columbia Pictures. All seen characters belong to me.

The Romp

These are the final designs for the main characters of my senior thesis. From left to right: Christoper, Tomas, Madeline, and William.

Madeline - Character Reference

Reference for one of the otter characters in my thesis.

How Fisher Went To Skyland

"How Fisher Went To Skyland" is a tale that comes from my Chippewa Indian heritage about how the Big Dipper was created. The story can be read here. I wanted to give the impression of the key elements in the story could be seen all at once, telling the story with one image.

The Koi Dance

A more developed piece involving the two mice from my texture images.

Sarcasm At The Ready

My senior portrait at Ringling College of Art and Design.

Mimzy and Me

The Gator Witch

"Many have come in hope to find
Remedy for troubled body and mind
And tormented souls do wander through
To seek a cure from a witch's brew
She turns none away when her profession's in need
But always delivers a warning to heed
To tamper with fate is a toss of the dice
For each bargain made comes at a price."

Silhouette/Doodle Variations - Final Concepts

The final three concept images.

Silhouette/Doodle Variations - Character Concept

Various concepts based off of the same sillhouettes and doodles.

Thomas

The Giving Kyle

Portrait of my friend, Kyle Galbraith, who likes to share the knowledge of his growing mind.  Inspired by the book The Giving Tree.

Just a few quick glimpses of what I see between the lines, or in this case, within the stucco.

A Performance At Hog Theater

A Performance At Hog Theater
By: Russel Edson

There was once a hog theater where hogs performed
as men, had men been hogs.

One hog said, I will be a hog in a field which has
found a mouse which is being eaten by the same hog
which is in the field and which has found the mouse,
which I am performing as my contribution to the
performer's art.

Oh let's just be hogs, cried an old hog.

And so the hogs streamed out of the theater crying,
only hogs, only
hogs . . .

This piece was featured in Best of Ringling 2009.

Let's Build A Snowhog

Just One Of The Guys

Keep Your Pets Indoors

Because you never know where the opossum lurks...

One Of Six Million Stars

A portrait of a forgotten face, but not a forgotten event.

Black Moor

Pen and ink rendering of a Black Moor Goldfish. I enjoyed working on this more than I knew I would, particularly working with the scales. I think it has an "old world" feel to it.

Jeff

Portrait of a fellow peer, Jeff.

Taoism

Known to most as the Yin Yang, this symbol often represents the Tao Chinese art of Tai Chi and symbolizes universal harmony between opposing sides. Yin is the black, Yang is the white, and whether it means dark and light, man and woman, or the sun and the moon, the Yin Yang represents monism, or the ideal that "all is one."

I Could Hear Your Laughter.

A portrait of my friend, Jack Koetje. I drew this during his first year of college away from home, and I was missing him dearly.
